Information on the River
The Holitna River
(Flatwater Class I) is the largest river in the lower Kuskokwim
basin. It begins at the confluence of the Kogrukluk River and
the Shotgun Creek. The surrounding country is covered with
beautiful forests of spruce, birch and cottonwoods. The
Holitna River was used by Natives as part of a travel and trade
route between Bristol Bay and the Interior. The First route to
the Interior was made by the Russians.
